Tempting A Cowboy

Pen and Muse Review:

They say “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” and Mia believes that’s true. But when she hooks up with what’s supposed to be a random stranger, she finds that he’s not quite as unknown as she might have liked.

I’ve been a Clarissa Yip fan since I read her first book, and this novella was definitely no exception. Mia was a deep, engaging character with flaws that I think a lot of us can relate to. The plot is just believable enough to be easily relatable, but not so believable that it’s humdrum. Who hasn’t gone on a trip to Vegas with their girlfriends? I would tell you, but of course, what happens in Vegas…

If you like cowboy romance, if you like contemporary romance, if you like novellas, I think you will like this book. Check it out. It releases soon!

TEMPTING A COWBOY by CLARISSA YIP – available on August 5, 2011 from Decadent Press.

Bab’s Review:
My Notes: Tempting A Cowboy—well the name speaks for itself.  I had a feeling it would be a fun read from the cover.  I showed my husband and he wiggled his eyebrows.  I said, “This is going to be a fun read.”
Quick Summary: Mia is a loner.  She’s a librarian who loves to read. That’s pretty much where her life ends. She does not date or mingle socially. She ends up at a costume party in Vegas dressed as Bo-Beep to find her Cowboy.  Will he like her? Can she be brave enough to pull the night off and have a great time?
Quick Review: Mia and Shane are both nervous and have no clue what to do–a romance that takes a twist from the beginning.  You fall in love with the couple from the start and want things to work out.  I was taken with their story from the first paragraph.  I wanted to know what was going to happen in Vegas and what would stay in Vegas.  I found myself not caring about the other couples just these two.
If you want a light, sexy, romance this is a must read.  Short enough to suck you in.  It will be a book I will read again over time.  It makes you feel good and love romance.  The author has done a supurb job.

Stephanois’ Review:

I haven’t read any of the other books in this 1 Night Stand series but after reading this one I’ll be seeking out more. Shane has been set up by his sister with a stranger who he knows will be dressed like Little Bo Peep. She’s really Mia, the sister of his business rival and has been talked into going to Vegas by her friends for this one night stand.

I liked Shane from the first page. He comes across as a sexy nice guy (complete with his cowboy outfit). I almost felt sorry for him because he’d been talked into this situation by his sister but you’re sure he’ll be well matched with Mia, who’s already been introduced in the story so you know that things are going to be okay for him. I liked the complication caused by Shane being Mia’s brother’s rival. Her brother is also in Vegas so things get really tense for her when she finds out who Shane really is.

The dialogue between these two is great, and sometimes humorous. At forty-one pages the pacing is fast and the sex hot. I would have liked to see more of a story for these two but other than that this is a fun tale that can be enjoyed when you just don’t have the time for a full length story but still need to satisfy your reading fix.

Teresa T.’s Review:

This is part of a series from Decadent Publishing. All the heroines (or heroes) in this series either have friends who send them to, or hear about, Madame Evangeline’s high-end dating service 1 Night Stand. The entire series is written by different authors.

Mia signed up for Madame Eve’s service on a dare from her friends Sarah and Brenda, so they go to Vegas. Frankly, Mia is a librarian in a small town and her family is always trying to push her to other things. She doesn’t really get out much because she hasn’t really met anyone worth seeing a second time.

Shane is a computer geek who doesn’t really get out much himself. He’s in Vegas for two reasons, a date his sister signed him up for and a business meeting. He meets up with Mia and the sparks fly; I say that because he’s a little awkward, and well, so is she. Then the sparks fly from all the chemistry and the two are pretty amazing together. Despite their initial awkwardness, the two of them really do hit it off. I loved seeing how Ms. Yip wrote their stories and combined them into this series.

I loved this story. I love how when a snag hits their post date Zen, they both buck up. This is a funny story, full of great characters. (I’d really like to see Brenda’s story sometime…). I have read many in this series and not been disappointed once. I have loved Ms. Yips writing in other stories and this makes me want more!

Danielle’s Review:

Mia Hunt cannot believe she is going to have a one-night stand all because she agreed to some stupid dare with her best friends.

Shane McCormick is proud to be the geek everyone sees him as and he is not ready to go through with the one-night stand his sister set him up with.

Then they meet at a costume party…the cowboy and Little Bo Peep, and the two lonely people set up by well-meaning people for a little adventure meet face-to-face. Mia cannot believe her bad luck when she realizes the one-night stand she is supposed to hook up with is none other than her very overprotective brother’s business rival and arch enemy. Ready to call it a night, Mia and Shane are struck with an intense backlash of heat, passion and enough sizzle to keep any cowboy cold on a wintry night. But when they wake up after a night of intense pleasure, will they continue to let the sparks develop into something more, or leave it at a one-night stand?

I always enjoy this series as it takes a simple storyline of a one-night stand and turns it into so much more. Tempting a Cowboy has added to the overwhelming success of the long list of great books belonging to 1NS series. I love how the scene is set up before Shane and Mia even meet and we get a real feel for why these two were even set up in the first place. Well-written, strong characters, steamy sex and unique obstacles keep the reader interested throughout each page. Clarissa Yip has written a bold and sassy tale that gives the impression of one story ending while another is just beginning.

Sizzling Hot Book Reviews:

Vicky’s Review:

Madame Eve of 1 Night Stand is famous for the perfect matches. But does she really know what she is doing this time? Setting up shy Mia with her brother’s business rival?!? And will geeky Shane be able to come out of his shell when Mia takes Tempting a Cowboyto new levels at the masquerade they meet at?

Clueless when it comes to women, Shane McCormick only talks geek. On a business trip to Vegas, he attends a masquerade dressed as a cowboy under the persuasion of his sister, only to find out he’s been set up by Madame Eve.
On a dare with her friends, Mia Hunt asks for the impossible: A 1NightStand with a hot cowboy, except her date is the one person she shouldn’t be seen with.
When their attraction fuels the night, trouble follows as desire collides. Will their time together end in calamity or a promise for more fun?

Madame Evangeline runs 1NightStand on the Internet. Setting up matches to meet in Las Vegas for special, well, one night stands. Both parties usually pay a fee for her service, requesting something they haven’t found on their own. They just don’t know how good Madame Evangeline is at finding the perfect match that one truly needs, much less wants. This time…

The Retiring Librarian: Mia Hunt isn’t sure which is worse: being the shy, quiet librarian people don’t tend to notice or having an over-protective brother who keeps guys away. Either way, she doesn’t date much and prefers quiet nights at home with a good book. But her two best friends are tired of small town life and its choices. They decide the 1 Night Stand agency will at least give them a chance at some wild fun and Las Vegas a change from Rover, TX. Of course, they have to dare Mia to get her to go along with their plans. None of them could have seen Mia being set up with her brother’s life long rival. Or how well they would hit it off!

The Computer-Geek Cowboy: Shane McCormick isn’t a classic geek, but he has the brain of one. His parents own a ranch in Rover, TX and wish he would take up the ranching full time and start on the next generation of McCormick’s. Shane, however, loves technology and his (successful) security business. He helps around the ranch only when needed, but really is geeky enough that he doesn’t even see the girls that throw themselves at him or know much about dating. So he is beyond surprised to be attracted to the woman his sister sets him up with thru Madame Eve. Then to find out she is his rival’s sister really shocks him. But doesn’t stop his attraction to her.

Now if Mia just hadn’t seen her brother at the masque before she and Shane left, things would be perfect…

Tempting a Cowboy just might show that I am impossible to please. We complain if there is not enough story, or character building, or “pull” between the characters, or conflict in the situations, etc in our romances. Well, there is plenty of all of this in Tempting a Cowboy. But I almost feel cheated this time; there is so much focus on the story that we only get one detailed ‘bedroom’ scene. Yes, I just complained that there isn’t enough sex in Tempting a Cowboy, lol. This is a 1 Night Stand story after all, and that leads us to expect lots of between-the-sheets activities. But Clarissa Yip writes so well that we are involved with the characters enough not to miss the extra “activities.” I have to admit I liked the idea of a masquerade ball and wonder just how wild that would get in Vegas. It would be a great ice breaker for these “dates” of Madame Eve’s as well. Great idea Clarissa!

Tempting a Cowboy is a nice bit of fun. It has a sexy geek guy, which many of you know I like. There is just something about a guy with hidden depth, sort of what makes Superman so appealing I guess. Of course, I can also relate to Mia on several levels as well. Spending the evening with a good book happens to be one of my favorite pastimes, no surprise there. As I’ve said before, you have to watch the quiet ones, many hide vixens waiting for the right guy to bring them out. Obviously, Mia and Shane have more in common than just being from the same small town. Both shy, quiet, ‘geek’ types. Mia understands Shane’s work because of her brother. Both have limited dating experience and seem to be on the same sexual level- i.e. neither are players nor virgins. So this does seem to be another perfect match by Madame Eve. Except for the BIG issue of Mia’s brother: both his over-protectiveness and his over-the-top business rivalry with Shane.

Tempting a Cowboy has more depth and interaction with secondary characters than many other stories in the 1 Night Stand series. But Mia and Shane are great together and Tempting a Cowboy is another perfect addition to the original concept for the series. I love this series: quick reads of spicy, romantic stories that leave me feeling happy and lift my mood. Just what I want for light summer reading.
